Project Management Roles and Global Experience
1990 to 1998; various roles; based in Houston, Texas, but working globally
Mounir was recruited by Exxon Chemical Company at while attending UC Berkeley and joining them in Baytown, Texas in their Basic Chemical Technology Strategic Business Unit. Mounir later joined Exxon Central Project Management division, which was responsible for global projects for Exxon Chemical. While with Exxon, Mounir advanced rapidly through various roles starting with Cost Estimating Engineer, Project Engineer, Cost Estimating Team Leader, Cost Control Engineer, Project Control Manager, and Integrated Project Services Manager.
During his work at Exxon Mounir managed multiple small projects, led the estimating for mega projects, handled project control on a mega project, established a project support office, working on the recovery of troubled projects, and participated, or led, the development/updates of numerous standards, processes, and project management procedures; including a career management framework.
Mounir’s work at Exxon Chemical earned him multiple promotions and recognitions.
1998 to 2000; President / PM Consultant; based in Houston, Texas, USA
In 1998, Mounir left Exxon to launch his own consultancy in Project Management and Control and immediately landed an opportunity to work on a mega petrochemical project, which was being developed by an international Joint Venture in Texas. Mounir joined the integrated project team responsible for project control on his mega project.
Saudi Arabia Oil Company (Saudi Aramco)
2000 to 2005; various roles; based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
At the end of 2000, Mounir joined Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia; a step that brought him back to his native region although not his homeland. In Saudi Aramco, he started in the business group for a cogeneration power project but was moved into another role, mostly working on special projects reporting directly to a project management senior department manager. His primary roles were leading a project management human resource professional development team and a continuous excellence team. In addition to these roles, he was an advocate for professional project management and launched various training programs, including a PMP Certification program.
